Intuition Workout for Peace

An intuition workout is a practice session working with your own psychic gifts to gain clarity around different questions. What I like about it is that you need nothing more than uninterrupted time, a space to do it, yourself, and a notebook or journal. No Tarot cards, runes, crystal balls, ouija boards, pendulums, or any other equipment is required. Don’t get me wrong, I love all of that stuff, but it can sometimes distract us from the powerful intuition that we hold inside us and become a crutch.

To get ready for the session take your notebook or journal and write out no more than three of these questions, or some you make up on your own, with plenty of space to write an answer after each. Questions focus our intuition on the answer. A curious psychic gets more information.

What fears do I have about peace?

What harmful beliefs hold me back from peace?

What old programing or memories influence my lack of peace now?

What am I learning about peace right now?

What can I do to create more peace in my life?

How can I personally contribute to peace in my household?

…in my town?

…in my country?

…in my world?

What do I need to know to find or create peace in my life?

Once you have chosen or made up three or fewer questions for your workout, put your journal and pen in your lap or set them aside, close at hand. Take a deep breath and begin progressively relaxing your body from your head to toes. Relax your mind, relax your emotions, and allow your spirit to open and shine. Count down, visualizing the numbers from 12 to 1 on the screen of your mind. Release the screen and let the count down of 13 to 1 gently take you deeper. When you are at your meditative level, affirm that you are opening your intuitive abilities with something like:

“I am surrounded by divine protection and I am now safely opening up to my intuition. My guides are around me guiding and protecting me. I can call up and understand any psychic information. I receive only the psychic information that is correct and accurate for me at this time.”

Mentally call out your first question, focusing all your attention on it. Then let the question go and visualize a blank screen in your mind’s eye. Relax and allow the information to come. It can manifest through any of your senses or a combination of them. You may receive a memory, an odd image, a voice speaking in your head, a feeling, or just a sense of knowing. Relax and receive. Know that it doesn’t have to make sense right away and could be symbolic. When you feel the flow of sensation and information has stopped, with a soft focus open your eyes and write down what you received in your journal. When done, close your eyes again, take a few deep breaths to deepen into meditative state once more, and ask the next question, repeating the process of asking, clearing the mind’s eye and allowing what comes to come. Again with soft focus open your eyes and write out your perceptions until you have answered all the questions.

Close out the session with affirmations of ending.

“I give thanks to my intuition and my guides for this session. I will retain and understand all information from this session. This session is at an end and I will return to waking consciousness.”

Count yourself up from 1 to 13, wiggling your fingers and toes to bring your consciousness fully back to the body. Count up again from 1 to 12, coming fully back. Give yourself clearance and balance. Ground yourself as needed.

Look over your intuitive notes. What came up? Write in the margins your possible interpretations of any symbols that may have appeared. Use the information that came up to help you create more peace.

Practice for Peace

Prayer for Peace

Prayer is used in many traditions to communicate, praise, thank, and set intention. Prayer is often under-utilized in pagan religions because it is used so strongly in religious traditions that have tried to eradicate other religions, including paganism. That being said there is a great power in prayer that should not be overlooked just because it gets a bad rap. I have written a prayer for peace that you are welcome to use in your practice.  After it are two other prayers for peace: One by Fiona McLeod (William Sharp) that combines elements of both pagan and Christian traditions and has the feel of a litany. The other one attributed to Francis of Assisi, but can only be traced back to the early 1900s. Even if it can’t be traced back to him, it is a great prayer of peace used by many faiths to this day. All of these are inspirations for you to be able to write a prayer of you own or just inspire your sincere prayer for peace in the moment, from your heart. Which is the practice for this week. Write a prayer and say it every day this week.

Practice for Peace

Meditation for Peace.

Meditation has many benefits. It can affect our ability to deal with stress, our emotions, focus, clarity, and a number of health issues. It can be also be a great way to gain peace. Throughout this blog series I offer different meditation techniques to help us gain inner peace, but also to foster it out in the world. The meditations in this blog will include passive mindfulness methods and more active meditations using visualization and journey-work.

I start most of my meditation methods with a progressive relaxation of the body, a visualized countdown and another countdown that just takes us deeper, since that is how we do things in my tradition. That countdown is used in reverse to get back out of a meditative state. This method is used in self hypnosis, the Silva Method, the Cabot tradition of Witchcraft, and in my own Temple of Witchcraft tradition to get your mind into a focused, meditative state. Many mindfulness methods do not use this countdown method but prefer to focus on a particular thought and hold it. I have found the mindfulness techniques enhanced by the countdown.

Meditation does not just benefit our own peace but can effect the people all around us. Multiple tests have been done to show that Meditation in 1% of the population of an area can reduce crime rates. This is called the Maharishi effect. Transcendental meditation was done in large groups in this study to see if the crime rate in DC would go down. This group meditation was shown to have the effect of crime decreasing in the area. This brings us to postulate that we are all connected in a field of consciousness and through meditation we can bring peace to those connected to us in that field. The unfortunate part of this study is that they did the study after the effect of a large groups practicing together. Many of us don’t have a large group we can meet up with to meditate. If our theory of a connective field of consciousness is correct, a personal practice done by enough practitioners in different places might have the same effect on the peace of their area.

All the benefit of the meditation practice are from regular use of it. Daily meditation brings about peace within us and can effect the field of conscious around us. This is a hard one for most people to factor in to their schedule. Commit to as much as you can. Sometimes starting small can get us into the habit of doing it more often then an overly ambitious practice. The following meditation is one to encourage peace within you, someone in need and radiate it out into the neighborhood. Make it your practice for this week if you desire.

Sharing the Peace Meditation

Imagine waves of relaxation flowing from your head down to your toes. Focus your attention on each muscle group as you relax. Let any tension flow out of your toes into Mother Earth to be recycled. Relax your mind and imagine all your thoughts are clouds being blown away by a gentle breeze. When you have a clear blue sky in your imagination, relax your heart, letting any emotions or stresses flow away. Let the light within your heart and your spirit protect and guide you.

Now we are going to count down into a meditative state by counting down from 12 to 1 and imagining it on the screen of our mind. Bring up on the screen of your mind the number 12. You can draw it or just imagine it appearing like a movie screen. Now it fades and you write 11 on the screen of your mind. Draw 10 on the screen of your mind. Getting more relaxed with each number. Draw 9 on the screen. Draw 8 on your screen. Draw 7 on your screen. Draw 6 on your screen. Feeling a deepening relaxation. Draw 5 on your screen, draw 4, draw 3. Draw 2 on the screen, draw 1.  You are now in a magical mind set where you have complete control of all of your abilities and powers for the highest good, harming none.

Release your screen and count down from 13 to 1, just listening to the numbers and going deeper: 13, 12 ,11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. You are now in a meditative state where all you do is for the highest good,  harming none.

Imagine the space around you is filling with prismatic white light. This light seems to sparkle like an opal with all the colors of the rainbow. This light is filled with the radiance of all the colors and is a psychically-adaptive energy to fit all needs to bring about peace for the highest good. As this cloud of light begins to fill your surroundings, you connect with your breath. Take a deep breath, drinking in this energy and letting it fill you with peace. As you exhale, allow anything that needs release to be expelled with your breath. The expelled energy is so heavy it sinks into the earth to be recycled. Continue to take deep breaths, using this imagery of breathing in peace and allowing release. Until you feel you are filled with this radiant peaceful light. You may find that your spirit and even your body feel lighter after doing this part of the meditation.

The power of this peace is meant to be shared. Visualize a person you know who needs more peace or allow someone you know who needs peace to appear before you. In your mind ask if they will accept some healing peace to be sent to them. You should get a feeling or have them indicate yes or no. If no, allow another person to appear and repeat the process of asking. If yes, breathe in the peaceful prismatic white light and with your exhale visualize it being expelled from you to the person. Repeat the process until you feel like the person is “full” or they seem to not be absorbing any more light.  Say farewell with a blessing of “may you find peace.”

By this point you will probably feel full of energy still. To return us to a level full of peace but not overwhelming, as you breath in focus on the light you now contain. As you exhale, imagine any extra light you don’t need is released from your body like a misty, sparkling spray sending particles of the prismatic white light of peace out into your home. The next breath out into the street and area around your home. The last and third breath out into your town or neighborhood.

Begin to count yourself up to waking consciousness by counting first from 1 to 13: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13. Begin to wiggle your toes and hands as you begin to come fully back. Count yourself up again from 1 to 12 coming more back into your body with each number: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12. You are now fully awake and refreshed. Bring your hands up above your head and sweep them down the front of your body and out away from the body saying. “I give myself clearance and balance, I am in balance with myself, I am in balance with the universe, I banish all that does not serve.”

Practice for Peace

An Introduction to a Practice for Peace. 

 

With the new year just beginning, we seek to analyze how our last year went and what  are our goals for the future. As this year began to wind down I thought to myself “What would my new year’s goals be?” Usually I set myself some type of goal that will make me feel better about myself: losing weight, writing more, saving more money, watching more TED talks, cleaning out my closet, calling my mother more regularly and so on. I can admit that I don’t always succeed in these goals but it is more about me knowing what it is I want. This year feels different for me. This year has upset my inner calm and my ability to find the light in situations. I have to work harder to keep my spirits up and feel that aura of peace I feel from my connection to spirit. You may have noticed this in your daily life as well. So this year I thought I would make my practice one that restores this peace to myself and hopefully to the world.

The idea that came to me was one of spiritual practices for greater peace in our world. Though I find the word “peace” lacking in some ways to describe what it was I wanted to create in myself and in the world, it is the only word that came close for me to what I wanted to work on in this blog. My goal is to write throughout this coming year a blog of spiritual practices to bring about a peace that nourishes the practitioner and creates ripples of active peace and harmony out in the world.

I hope this blog inspires others to take up a practice of peace. Like any new year’s goal, you may have high hopes of your abilities to adopt new spiritual practice. This is good but to keep a disciplined practice one needs to know oneself. Know how much can you commit yourself to a practice of peace. Make your commitment to peace a goal you can achieve and feel good about. Your commitment might be a monthly, weekly, or daily session to work with the spiritual practices in this blog. Your commitment may be just to read and reflect upon it, and that is okay too. As I said I hope it inspires you to incorporate actions of active peace.

What is Peace?

The art of creation is to first define the creation and then to implement it. So the first step to creating a practice for peace is to define what peace is to you. Get out your journal, a piece of paper or start a new note on your device and write at the top of it “Peace is…” Give yourself a limited amount of time like one to five minutes. A time constraint makes us focus a bit more and prioritize what we put on the list. You can even start a timer. Start to make a list of free associations with what peace is under the title. Do it now before you read any further.

Below is my list:

Peace is..

Hope, tranquility, harmony, diplomacy, a deep breath, lack of war, lack of discord, a cup of tea, good friends, right action or dharma, the goal, drama free, at the heart of every dance, what I seek, connection to the divine, enlightened people, tolerant, kind, acting from the heart, an end to need, a happy family, the ten of cups, knowing and adapting to the pattern.

Your list of what peace is will tell you what you are moving towards when you say the word “peace.” It may have images of what you think of when you say the word or things you associate with it. Your definition of what you are trying to create is a good thing to go over before you start the spiritual creation process because it can show you what it is you mean when you say what you want. You may see harmony in your list and think that is a better goal then the word peace because, in your mind, peace is created by it.

The process of free association may also give you clues to how you can create that peace in incremental steps. Take as example “a cup of tea” from my list. I could make a blend of tea that is to bring me peace and make it into a tranquil practice to bring about peace in myself by making and enjoying that tea.

Now that you have connected a bit to your own definition of peace, write a short paragraph describing an ideal scene of peace. Describe it in all of your senses and make it as real as possible. The practice for this week is to get relaxed and visualize it when you can through out the day. You may find yourself changing the scene a bit with your day as you visualize it. Allow your mind to effortlessly create the scene as you create it in your inner senses. Always end with a moment of gratitude for this peace in all your ideal scenes to super-charge it for manifestation. Know that when you visualize an ideal scene you have created the reactions as if it was already true within your body, you have created a pattern on the causal plane and with gratitude charged it so it will come out of the casual into reality.

Below is my example of the ideal scene I am using today. Ever since the free association I have wanted some tea.

My ideal scene:

I have finished all my work for the day, the house is quiet except for its usual background sounds. I have just made some English breakfast tea with milk and honey. As I smell the tea my body releases all tension and I feel a wave of calm come over me. It is the relaxed, focused, and energetic calm that comes from a good meditation. I take a deep breath knowing that the infinite source is working toward the best solutions in all things. I feel a tingle of joy as I am grateful for this time of peace.

A fallen leaf

I took time out from my Thanksgiving preparations to go on what I call fairy time. When I had gone outside to attend to one of my turkey day preparations the wind felt like it was calling me. Tugging at my senses and making me feel a call to the wild. In response I went about gathering what I would need for some fairy time. I put my trusty bottle of corn meal for offerings. Corn meal is a good offering to the land and with the wind it puffs from my hand spreading the blessing of it. I pulled my hunter orange hat that I use for hiking during hunting season and went off to the local town forest.

The night before I started Silver Ravenwolf’s new book The Witching HourShe goes over what she calls a “spirit walk” where you go out to connect to nature and the spirits to gain knowledge and some of the special gifts of nature. I call this faery time. I learned about faery time from my Friend Matooka. Faery time is when someone who is fey in essential nature goes out into nature to rebalance themselves after having too much busy human time. It is a time to reconnect and let go of the mundane.

I started my faery time like I usually do with an offering of corn meal at the beginning of the trail to the spirits of the land and fey of this place. I asked that in return they give me there guidance and protection on my journey. Moving through the woods with the November winds rattling the trees and shaking the leaves instantly calmed me. As I walked I mused about my year reading with Matooka Moonbear last night. How my focus was on connecting to the innocent childlike way I connect to the world. As I walked I tried to catch a leaf falling from a tree. Since I was little I knew that if you could catch one in the fall you would enjoy a illness free winter. Whether this is empirically true I have never investigated fully but it has always been something I try to do in the fall. I leaped and reached but the three times I tried I caught no leaf.

Disappointed I turned my eyes to the beauty of nature around me. I picked up a fallen pine bough bringing it to my nose to smell it’s scent. This brought me to think about Silver’s book since one of the things you would get from a spirit walk was things you could add to your herbal formularies and powders. Thinking of the book I asked spirit what it had to teach me right now. I reached again to smell the pine bough and a small oak leaf fell and stuck to my jacket. I laughed picking it off my jacket and knowing this was my message from spirit. The leaf meant to me that you don’t have to try so hard or push yourself so much, sometimes it is just about connecting, asking and letting yourself receive.

Blessing Cord

Body

The fortieth bead on the blessing cord is the blessing of Body. This is the blessing of earth in Malkuth. Our bodies—no matter their condition—are a true blessing. Many religions discount the body and the physical, seeing them as impure expressions of our nature. They either seek to deny the body or to detach from it. They seek to be of pure spirit or to cast aside the illusion of the body in pursuit of a “higher” experience.

It is my belief that we are incarnated in bodies for a reason. There are lessons to be learned on this plane and our way to learn them is through the body. It is both a vehicle of our journey through Malkuth and also a great teacher of our lessons. The body is our vehicle and medium to experience the pleasure and pain of the physical world. It is the vehicle born of desire and destroyed by it. It is more then just a vehicle of our worldly experience, it is also our teacher in this lifetime.

Our bodies are sending us information all the time. Pleasure and pain tell us more about how to survive in this world. Our heart races when we meet a special someone, or beats uncontrollably as we escape from an attacker. Our body relaxes when we meditate, giving us better ability to tap into the flow of spirit. It tells us when we need healing, rest, nurturing, love, or even to fight back. Each message the body sends us has layers of meaning. A pain in the neck tells us we are working on something that annoys us and we need to take a break. A pain in our back tells us we should ask for help and not try to solve it all by ourselves, carrying the weight of the world. Hearing loss asks us to examine what it is we don’t want to hear and to be more open. There are hundreds of different messages that our body gives us that can help in our healing process and our great work. We have only to listen deeply to get more of the message.

This conversation is not just one-sided though. We can ask our body questions to gain more insight in even our day-to-day problems. Think about an issue you have been struggling with. Tune into your body and feel how these thoughts affect your body. Do you feel warm or cold when you hold this thought? Does your heart beat faster or slower? How is your breathing? Where do you feel tension within your body? Asking yourself what you feel in your body can give you information when you know how your body talks to you. Warm and cold can tell us if something is agreeable or not, expansive or contractive, inviting or scary. Your heart and your breath can gage how excited you are or how peaceful something makes you. Where you feel tension can tell you where this issue sits within you. It can give you symbolic information about the issue. A pain in the neck for me is an annoying trial, a sore foot is not wanting to take the next step, and tired eyes can tell me there is something I don’t want to see. These are just a few examples.

The body is part of our evolution in this lifetime, by beginning our discussion with it we can learn our world’s lessons faster. It is important that we also take care of our vehicle and teacher. By caring for our bodies we get to stay in them longer, learn more lessons, and our bodies can channel more of the energies of the spirit. Eastern spiritual traditions combine physical exercise with spiritual work. Yoga, qi-gong, and tai chi all are used to balance our body with our spiritual work. Yoga “yokes” the body with the work of the spirit. In our western traditions we seem to ignore the body and we need to bring it back so we can find balance. It is the combination that makes us stronger. With exercise and diet we can make our bodies stronger to help us channel our spiritual work.

In the following meditation we use our awareness to connect deeper to the body. In this deeper connection, we tune into the body’s wisdom to receive it’s messages and to ask about situations and get the answers of sensations.

Meditation of Body

Hold the fourtieth bead on the blessing cord. The blessing of Body, the bead of Earth in Malkuth.

Count yourself down in to a meditative state.

Allow the screen of your mind to expand out around you, forming a sphere. Feel the slight shift as a garden begins to grow up around you in the sphere of your mind. Resonate the god name of Malkuth: Ah-do-nai Ha-ah-retz

Pussy hat Project Hat.

Pussy hat project Crochet Version. By Adam Sartwell.

I am going to the woman’s march with a couple of friends in Boston on January 21st 2017. I am a man who supports woman’s rights. I want to show my support  by both marching and making as many hats as I can. I made this version of the pussy hat project hat because I hate sewing. I tried to Knit the hat they have as a pattern on their website and it came out really large. I am sure my gage was off or I was using bigger needles then I needed. So I looked at the crochet patterns and I didn’t like the look of them. One required sewing which is a bummer cause I hate sewing. The other one had no ribbing so it fit snug to your head. So this pattern makes the hat from the top down in a method I used to make tarot bags where you use both sides of the chain only going in one side of the loops at a time. Then It incorporates making ribbing sideways around the hat which gives you a stronger ribbing then the alternating BL and FL. I used an H or 5.5mm hook and It took about a skein of medium 4 yarn.

Ch. 37

  1. In the chain one away from hook In back loops only half double crochet until end of chain. Turn and in the other loops of your chain (the front ones) half double crochet to end of chain then slipstitch end making a round.
  2. Ch2 and double crochet in all Hdc all the way around hat. Slip stitch into beginning of hat.
  3. Repeat 2. for 5 rows or until you have the desired length of four to four and a half inches
  4. (now the weird part where the ribbing begins.) chain eleven in chain one away from hook in Back loops single crochet until you reach hat. Single crochet in dc of hat. Sc in next dc above.
  5. Turn. sc ten times in sc of previous row of Brim in the Back loops only.
  6. Chain one turn sc in bl unit you reach hat. Sc in dc, sc in next dc.
  7. Repeat 5+6 until whole hat has ribbing.
  8. When you have gone all the way around the hat turn it inside out and sc through the loops  both beginning of ribbing and end of ribbing to combine. Finish off.

 

Blessing Cord

Formation

The thirty-ninth bead on the blessing cord is the blessing of formation. It is the blessing of earth in Yesod. Yesod is the sephira sometimes called the storehouse of images. This is where all the images, archetypes, patterns, memories—the foundations of our manifestation—are held. It is sometimes attributed to the astral plane, the layer of reality where our own physical world’s patterns of manifestation are held. It is the place often called the Foundation of our own world in Malkuth. The images, ideas, and patterns all have the possibility to be manifested within the realm of Malkuth. The patterns of Yesod are our blueprints of what we bring into formation in our lives.

This concept of a plane of energy patterns reminds me of a New Age concept called the causal plane. The causal plane term was used by Neo-theosophists. They believe there are four planes of existence: casual, mental, astral, and physical. To make formation in the physical world we must move our idea or image from the causal plane through the mental and astral and then it has formation within physical reality. As multidimensional beings we can move between these planes in astral travel and in some meditations.

You can think about these planes like the work of a factory. Inspiration occurs in the causal plane. The mental plane is where we draw up the blueprints for whatever we are making. The astral is where resources and energy are brought together in that pattern. Then the physical is our end product. When we “beta test” our physical product and it does not work as we thought or is not quite right, we go “back to the drawing board” to change our blueprint and create a better product.

The energetic planes can be used this way to take something that has manifested in your life and dissolve it by symbolically going back through the factory, taking the whole thing apart and putting it back together in a way that works for your purposes. In this meditation we will go through the different planes, taking a problem with us. As we bring something back to the causal plane, it dissolves back into its component parts, allowing you to reassemble it according to a new blueprint of your creation.

Meditation of Formation

Hold the thirty-ninth bead of the blessing cord, the bead of formation, the blessing of Earth in Yesod.

Count yourself down into a meditative state.

Allow the screen of your mind to expand until it is a sphere around you. Feel a sensation of rising as your sphere begins to fill with a misty purple light. Resonate the God name of Yesod: Sha-dai El-chai.

The purple light grows to a darker shade of purple, like the color of an egg plant. The darker it gets the closer you are to the plane of the physical. Bring up on the screen of your mind the issue or problem you have been experiencing. Visualize it fully with all of your senses. Say to yourself “I am now changing this problem.” Imagine the problem being encased in a bubble of energy, then shrinking down until you can hold the bubble in your hand. You can see the representation of your issue inside the bubble.

Intend to take this issue into the causal plane to dissolve this blueprint and create its solution. The purple light around you begins to lighten to a medium range purple like a violet. Feel how your problem has moved with you higher into the astral. Look at it and observe what images and feelings make up its form in the astral level. It may appear more symbolic here.

Intend to move higher and observe how the light around you becomes a light purple. Look again at your problem and see the thoughts that made it up. You may hear them as words or experience them as knowings or images.

Move even higher into the causal plane. The light around you becomes a prismatic white that holds all colors within it. Your problem begins to dissolve in the pure energy of this place. You may feel like you are merging with the plane around you. There is a great peace here and all solutions are possible. Begin to take in this higher vibrational energy and form an image of your problem as solved. Visualize the solution or the end result you truly desire, then begin to descend with your solution.

The light becomes pale purple. Here in the mental plane, form your thoughts about this solution. You may want to say an affirmation of this new end result. For example: I am in perfect health and I become more vital every day.

Descend again into the violet light and reinforce images of your end result. Watch as it pulls in energy from the astral plane all on its own, moving towards formation.

Descend again to the astral plane where you are close to the plane of manifestation. See the deep purple light all around you. Let your end result expand so it fills the screen of your mind. Step into the vision and experience it with all your senses. Doing this makes it real for you. Return back into your sphere of the mind with the purple light of Yesod all around you. Allow your end vision to fade and know that it goes to be manifested in the physical world.

All around you is obscured by the purple light. You feel a slight gentle descent as the light fades from view. The screen of your mind becomes its normal color and shrinks back to its normal size.

Count yourself up into waking consciousness.

Blessing Cord

Planning

The thirty-eighth bead on the blessing cord is the blessing of Planing. It is the blessing of earth in Hod. Hod has to do with our mental capabilities and mental faculties. When we apply this energy to the power of earth we get Planning. The blessing of planning helps organize our steps so we are more likely to get to our goals. This being said, don’t be afraid to change plans when you meet up with synchronicity or guidance that the goal isn’t for you. They say a plan is only as good as the first battle, and then it must change and adapt.

One of the concepts brought up in most human religions is that of the Divine Plan: that we are all here for a reason, we have a purpose, and the more we accept that we are working on this purpose, the more we are doing our great work. I feel like most of the people I read for are asking “what is my purpose?” or “why am I here?” These readings always make me laugh because they almost always say “well, I knew that” or “that is good confirmation” when the answers come through. Our plan or purpose from the divine is not just one thing or the lesson from one instance. Our purpose is what we naturally choose, mixed with our aspirations to make ourselves better people.

The “master plan” or “divine plan” is made up of all the choices and goals we make on a day to day basis. Not just what we consciously choose but what we choose with our whole being. We are constantly being guided by our Holy Guardian Angel and our Psychic Self. All the goals we work toward teach us more about ourselves and what our Great Work really is. The events that happen, the signs, personal development, and how the goal changes over time can teach us a great deal about the lessons of our “Divine Plan.”

The first step to having a plan is knowing what it is you want to accomplish. What are your

goals? There are two types of goals. There are means goals and end goals. A means goal is a specific goal as a step towards getting you to your goal, like getting a job to pay the bills so you can support yourself while you write the great American novel. The hard part of these goals is that you can eventually start to think of them your end goal. An end goal is more of the essence of what you want to do with your life. Like being happy, enjoying your life, feeling accomplished, and doing what makes you feel whole. The end goal is really the essence of what you desire.

To get a better feeling of what the essence of your goals in this lifetime are here is an exercise I learned from Vishen Lakhiani, CEO of Mind Valley, to get in touch with them. Get out a timer, a piece of paper and a pen. Separate the paper into three sections using a line of your pen. Write  one of these three questions across the top of each section: What do I want to experience in life? Where do you want to grow? What do you want to contribute to the world? When you have done that, set your timer to two minutes and begin to write your answers to the first question. Repeat the process with each question. The timer makes you go with your first instinct by not allowing you to dwell too long on each answer.

Now look over your answers. You may now have a better idea of what it is you want to create in your life. Now that you have seen them, you may want to form them into a kind of mission statement. Your mission statement may change over time but writing it out so you know what you feel is your mission in life is can clarify your choices that form your plan. If that seems too big for you, formulate what your goal is for the next five years or even just the next year. I like to make a list of my goals for the next year in the time between Samhain (Halloween) and New Year’s. Up here in the northern hemisphere it is a dark time full of reflection and celebrations with family. It is a good time to start thinking about the goals for the next year and to look back at the last year’s goals and how you did on accomplishing them. This can also inform your planning. What type of plan works best for you?

I then like to break up this year-long goal in my planner into goals for the month. This takes work to separate out what are reasonable steps I can accomplish to get to my goal every month. This is making a plan. I say “reasonable” steps because sometimes when we are in the planning phase we can get a little overzealous and over work ourselves. Always plan breaks from your work into your plan. The length of the breaks are proportionate to what it is you have observed you need to keep your balance. This could be a day off or a week off where you do something fun and relaxing. Breaks are important so we don’t have a break down. Make sure all these goals are done so you can change them when needed, not set in stone. Remember that a plan changes once it hits the battlefield. It is okay to change the plan and okay to change our goals when we find they were not exactly what we thought they would be.

There are times where planning seems to fail us and we don’t know what the next step is to our goal or even the steps to clear our path to it. We may be stumped on what the goals are and how to get there. The following meditation is a spiritual way to get a vision of a goal and the next step.

Meditation of Planning

Hold the Thirty-eighth bead of the blessing cord. The bead of expression, the blessing of water in Hod.

Count yourself down into a meditative state.

Allow the screen of your mind to expand until it is a sphere around you. Feel a sensation of rising as your sphere begins to fill with an orange light. Resonate the God name El-oh-heem Tza-ba-oth.

The orange light surrounds you like a mercurial mist. Ask your guides and guardians to be with you to answer your questions. Ask the space around you:

“What is the best goal for me right now?”

Clear your mind and stare into the orange mists. A scene or symbol begins to emerge from the mist. You may have a thought, memory, feeling, or hear words in your head describing what your next goal will be like. Note all the sensory details about this answer. Suspend all doubt and take what comes first to your inner vision. Know that if you receive nothing, you may receive it in a dream or synchronicity in the physical world. Have faith in yourself and your process that you will recognize it at this time.

Again the orange mist rises and obscures the image or symbol. Your mind clears. Ask your next question of the space around you.

“What is the next step that is best for me?”

Again allow the mists to part and show you a vision of what your next step should be. Take in all the sensory details about this answer. Be open to it being something you might have not expected. A sign may show up in your daily life, so be open to perceiving it.

Thank your guides and the energy of this sphere for the answers you have perceived. State to  yourself that you will remember clearly all salient details of this meditation. The orange light rises again to obscure all from view.

Feel a gentle decent as the orange light begins to fade from your sphere. The screen of your mind returns to normal coloring and then shrinks back to its normal size.

Count yourself up to waking consciousness.

Give yourself clearance and balance. Ground if necessary. You may want to write down your answers in your journal.

Contemplation

What do you want to experience in your life? Where do you want to grow? What do you want to contribute to the world? What is the next step towards those things? How can I better plan ahead to reach my goals? What have I learned about what types of plan works best for me? Am I willing to change my plans if necessary?
